Deeper Clarity, Emotional Resilience & Renewed Commitment

2/6/2026

Prasant Muduli
Sabbatical Dates: 13th December 2025 - 31st March 2026

My sabbatical was a deeply transformative journey that combined healing, reflection, family reconnection, and leadership learning.

December 2025: I began my sabbatical with a Panchakarma healing and detoxification program at Ayuryogashram, Kerala. This intensive Ayurvedic process helped me reset physically and mentally after years of continuous grassroots engagement.

January 2026: I participated in a 10-day Vipassana Meditation program in Bhubaneswar, which was a powerful experience of silence, discipline, and self-observation. I also attended a 4-day Emotional Wellness Retreat at Osho, Dharamshala, which helped me explore deeper emotional patterns and inner responses.

February 2026: This month was dedicated to family connection, health, and physical wellbeing. I spent quality time with my family, including travel and visits to spiritual places, and time at SN Eco Resort & Waterpark.
Importantly, I underwent a comprehensive health check-up, which provided clarity on my overall physical condition and preventive health needs.

Alongside this, I also began attending the gym regularly, focusing on rebuilding physical strength, stamina, and discipline as part of my long-term wellbeing journey.
This phase reinforced my understanding that sustained leadership requires consistent investment in physical health and disciplined lifestyle practices

March 2026: I attended a Leadership and Management for NGOs program in Delhi, organized by Civil Society Academy. This helped me reconnect with sectoral perspectives and reflect on leadership practices with renewed clarity.

What questions /reflections emerged during your sabbatical – Could be related to personal or professional life.
During this period, several important reflections emerged:
  • How can I sustain inner calm and clarity while leading complex grassroots programs?
  • What does balanced leadership look like in the development sector?
  • How can I build strong second-line leadership so that the organization does not depend excessively on me?
  • What changes are needed in my personal mindset to move from operational stress to strategic thinking?

What memory has stayed with you from your sabbatical?
The most powerful memory from my sabbatical is the experience of deep silence during the Vipassana meditation and the sense of inner stillness it created.

I will always remain grateful to the Cocoon Initiative (Dasra) for making this journey possible. This support came at a crucial time in my life and leadership journey.

What did you struggle with during your sabbatical?
The initial phase of the sabbatical was not easy.
  • Being without personal gadgets and communication tools during meditation programs was particularly challenging.
  • I experienced restlessness and difficulty in adjusting to silence and structured discipline.

However, over time, this discomfort became a source of growth. It helped me detach from constant stimulation and develop stronger inner control.

Any insights or learnings from your sabbatical that you plan to implement in your work / personal life?
This sabbatical provided several critical insights:
  • I learned how to balance personal wellbeing with professional responsibilities.
  • I realized the importance of delegation and trust in team members—during my absence, my team effectively managed day-to-day operations.
  • I understood that emotional health directly impacts leadership quality.
  • I developed a deeper appreciation for structured reflection and conscious decision-making.

These learnings will be actively applied in strengthening NYDHEE’s leadership and systems.

Do you feel a sense of rest and wellbeing post your sabbatical? If yes, in what way and if not, what was missed?
Yes, I now feel a significant improvement in my mental and emotional wellbeing.
  • I feel more calm, patient, and self-aware
  • My ability to respond (rather than react) has improved
  • I have gained clarity in thinking and decision-making

At the same time, I recognize that this is a continuous journey, and I intend to sustain these practices in my daily life.

How did your colleagues and family feel about your sabbatical?
My sabbatical created a positive impact on both my family and colleagues:
  • My family appreciated the quality time and emotional presence, especially with my children
  • My colleagues demonstrated strong ownership and responsibility, which increased my confidence in the team
This experience reinforced the importance of shared leadership and personal space.

Any feedback / areas of improvement to The Cocoon Initiative about the process?
The Cocoon Initiative is a highly valuable and much-needed support system for leaders in the social sector.
Suggestions for further strengthening:
  • Introduce structured peer-sharing spaces among fellows during or after sabbatical
  • Provide optional post-sabbatical reintegration support
  • Encourage documentation of leadership transformation journeys for wider learning

What advice would your offer to anyone else planning to take a sabbatical?
  • Plan your delegation seriously—organizational continuity is critical
  • Be mentally prepared for initial discomfort and emotional challenges
  • Fully disconnect from routine work to gain real benefit
  • Use the time intentionally for healing, reflection, and clarity
  • Trust the process—transformation takes time but is deeply rewarding

Closing Reflection
This sabbatical was not just a pause it was a defining leadership transition. It enabled me to step back, realign, and return with deeper clarity, stronger emotional resilience, and a renewed commitment to building a more sustainable and institution-driven NYDHEE.
